Education System In India

Image
Education is one of the most vital parts of our life. India today is the second largest higher education network in the world. Universities in India are set up by the Central or the State Governments by the means of legislation, while colleges are established by State Governments or private bodies / trusts. All colleges are affiliated to some university. The structure of higher education consists of three years of education after 12 years of school education leading to arts and science and four-five years in professional fields like engineering and medical. But the system of education in India is not up to the mark. 25% of the Indian population is illiterate. Only 7% of the population that goes to school managed to graduate and only 15% of those who enroll manage to make it to high school and achieve a place in the higher education system. A few reasons why education in India is given less importance in some areas are as follows: 1. 80% of schools are managed by the government. Private...

Brain Exercises to Improve your IQ Score

Image
Can we make ourselves any smarter? The answer to that particular question is still a puzzle, trying to be solved by scientists all over the world. The most common measure of how smart a person boils down to a simple calculation, known as the Intelligence Quotient or IQ. While there have been papers published stating how brain exercises could help people improve their IQ’s, there has also been researched papers published opposing the said notion. If you are to consider, the human brain and the Intelligence Quotient that it is associated with is a pretty much subjective term. The human brain performs well under better supervision and training. The IQ levels are not some measures of intelligence which will remain stagnant over the long run. These levels could be improved by training your brain to newer perspectives and a better environment. Nourishing the brain, just as you would with your body is essential to improve your IQ levels over time. Note:  If you want to take few tests for ...

Medical Laboratory Technology: Role and Ethics

Image
In this article, we will discuss:-  1. Introduction and Role of Medical Lab Technology  2. Ethics and Responsibilities of Medical Lab Technologists. Introduction and Role of Medical Lab Technology: Medical laboratory science is an umbrella field comprising a number of different disci¬plines. The major disciplines/departments of medical laboratory science are: Clinical Chemistry Hematology Histopathology Medical Microbiology The major role of a medical laboratory is to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases by performing qualitative, quantitative, or screening test procedures or examina¬tions on materials derived from the human body. The laboratory plays a vital role in the overall comprehensive health care system by: Confirming provisional diagnosis of the clinician Ruling out a diagnosis Detecting disease Regulating therapy In recent times, the increased demand on the laboratory has led to the introduction of more specialized and sophisticated procedures including ...

Insulin Tolerance Test

Image
Introduction:-  An  insulin tolerance test  ( ITT ) is a medical diagnostic procedure during which insulin  is injected into a patient's vein, after which blood glucose is measured at regular intervals. Indication(s) Investigation of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis (HPA) with regard to the release of growth hormone (GH) and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). Typically used for the investigation of suspected growth hormone deficiency. Sometimes used for the investigation of glucocorticoid deficiency when other investigations (such as the synacthen stimulation test) are not appropriate. If random GH and cortisol samples demonstrate clearly sufficient levels there is no need to perform this test. Background The stress of insulin-induced hypoglycemia triggers the release of GH and ACTH from the pituitary gland in normal subjects. GH response is measured directly. ACTH is typically measured indirectly using cortisol but may be measured directly. Precautions/Contraindicat...

Cells of the immune system

Image
Introduction White blood cells or leucocytes serve as sentinels and defenders against infection. They move around the body via the lymphatic and blood circulatory systems. Leucocytes are classified by morphology- number of nuclei lobes and presence or absence of cytoplasmic granules. Leukocytes may be found as individual cells throughout the body, as accumulations within lymphoid organs (e.g., spleen, lymph nodes) and at sites of infection or inflammation. Knowledge of the role that each leukocyte plays is important in understanding immune function. Formation of blood cells Flow chart of Haematopoiesis All blood-borne cells originate in the bone marrow. Pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow give rise to two major lineages; a myeloid lineage and a lymphoid lineage. Cells of the myeloid lineage differentiate further into platelets erythrocytes, eosinophils, b...
